I am very sorry that I won’t be able to attend the lecture on American history tomorrow afternoon. I’m writing to tell you the reason for it.
My uncle is returning home from France, and I have promised to meet him at the airport at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon. You know I’m always as good as my word.
I am very interested in American society and history. I wonder if it is possible for the talk to be recorded, and if so, could I borrow the tape? It would mean a great deal to me to listen to the tape and learn what is covered in the talk.

Dear Chris,
I feel terribly sorry that I cannot go to Yunnan in July with you as planned. The reason is that my left foot was injured. I fell off my bike yersterday when I was on my way to school,and the doctor insisted that I should stay in bed for at least two weeks.
Can I suggest / Is it possible that we put it off until early August? Please allow me to say sorry again. I sincerely hope you can understand me. And I’m looking forward to seeing you soon.

I am eagerly looking forward to your visit to our city. After all these years of writing to each other, I can not wait to see you. However, I regret to inform you that I will not be able to meet you at the airport on time.
The reason is that your flight will arrive at 9 o’clock on the morning of May 9, and unluckily our teacher has decided to give us an English test at that time.
The test is important and we are all required to take it. So the earliest time when I can reach the airport will be about an hour after you land. Will you plese wait for me at the arrival lounge? You can have a rest while you wait.
